Shedding Light on Surety in the World of Solar Power

Recorded On: 07/10/2018

Solar contractors are very good at installing and operating photovoltaic systems but are often in the dark when it comes to understanding the surety bonds they are required to have for their projects. This NASBP Virtual Seminar covers the nuances and idiosyncrasies of surety bonds in the solar power space.  Participants will learn how to help a client or prospect understand their own bonding needs.

Nathan Wonder

Vice President, Surety Department

CAC Specialty

Nathan is the Vice President within the Surety Department under Natural Resources, focusing primarily on the renewable energy sector.  Prior to joining CAC, Nathan was the Surety Account Executive at Brown & Brown. During his time there, Nathan worked with renewable energy developers, contractors, and owners to build out robust surety facilities. He worked closely with counterparties such as public utilities, local planning boards, and solar module manufacturers to get them to accept surety bonds for the first time as an acceptable financial assurance mechanism.  Nathan is a former President of the Surety Association of Oregon and is the Vice Chair of NASBP’s Professional Development Committee. He also teaches courses on renewable energy bonding and commercial surety at NASBP’s Surety Schools. Nathan also had an article published by Surety Bond Quarterly on bonding solar projects.

Nathan graduated from the University of Oregon with his B.A. in Mathematics and Theater Arts. He also received his MFA in acting from Roosevelt University. When he’s not working, Nathan likes to play chess and work in his woodshop, but mostly he plays with his two small children who have taken over all of his free time.
